Coast Guard, local agencies search for missing swimmer near West Haven, Connecticut

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center were notified by the West Haven Police Department at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday, after lifeguards noticed a person in the water 600-800 feet from the shore, but immediately lost visual.

Currently searching are:

  • A Coast Guard Station New Haven rescue crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat Medium
  • An MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod
  • West Shore, West Haven, Stratford and Milford Police Officers
  • Milford Dive Team members

The swimmer’s name and age are unknown at this time but individual was reported to be wearing a pink or red swim cap.

Boaters in the area are requested to keep a sharp lookout for the missing swimmer. If you have any information on the location of the missing individual, please contact the Coast Guard Long Island Sound Command Center at 203-468-4401.
