Coast Guard, local agencies search for missing man in Columbia River

ASTORIA, Ore. – The Coast Guard, along with local agencies, are searching for a missing a man at Frenchman’s Bar on the Columbia River near Portland, Ore., Tuesday.

A Good Samaritan contacted 911 around 4:45 p.m. after they discovered four people tired and struggling in the water.

The Good Samaritan was able to rescue three of the people but could not locate the forth.

A Coast Guard 25-foot response boat from Station Portland, Ore., was diverted to the area and was on scene within minutes. Boats from Multnomah County Sheriff, Clark County Fire and Vancouver Fire departments assisted in the search. An MH-60 rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Group/Air Station Astoria also responded to the area.

The response boat crew, along with a dive team from Vancouver Fire Department, is still on scene searching for the missing man.

The man was reported as wearing Hawaiian style shorts and had multiple piercings. Anyone who locates or has information on the missing man should contact the Coast Guard at (503) 240-9301 or the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office at (503) 823-1901.
