FORT DE SOTO, Fla. — Coast Guard crewmembers along with local agencies are searching for a 49-year-old man who fell overboard off his 24-foot recreational boat in the vicinity of Fort De Soto boat ramp, Sunday.
The man was reported to be wearing red shorts, without a shirt or life jacket.
A good Samaritan contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg at 4:40 p.m., via VHF-FM channel 16 reporting he witnessed the man fall overboard while working on his engine and never resurfaced.
A 25-foot Response Boat-Small boatcrew from Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, a boatcrew from Eckerd College Search and Rescue, a boatcrew from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and a boatcrew from Pinellas County Fire and Rescue are currently searching for the man.
