Coast Guard, local agencies rescue boater caught in rough weather

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The Coast Guard and other local responders safely rescued a middle-aged man from his sailboat, after it had been pushed against the rocks near the Los Angeles Light.

Personnel from Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a mayday call from the master of the 25-foot sailboat, stating that during his attempted northbound transit he vessel was beset by 35 knots wind gusts and six to eight foot swells.

A 25-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach, a Los Angeles Fire boat, a tug boat, and a Baywatch Cabrillo boat all responded to the call for help.

At approximately 3:19 p.m., the sailor was brought aboard the fire boat while the Baywatch boat attempted to tow the sailboat from the rocks.
