Coast Guard, local agencies recover 1 boater near Crystal River Boat Ramp in Crystal River, Fla.

Southeastern Coast Guard NewsCRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — The Coast Guard along with local agencies recovered an older male boater after he was reported overdue in the vicinity of Crystal River, Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a report at approximately 6 p.m., from crewmembers at Coast Guard Station Yankeetown through the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office of a possible person in the water near Crystal River.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater was diverted from a training evolution along with a 20-foot Shallow Response Boat crew from Station Yankeetown, a boat crew from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and a boat and helicopter crew from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was located by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office helicopter crew and was recovered unresponsive by the SRB crew from the station.

The man was then transported to the Crystal River Boat Ramp and transferred to Citrus County emergency medical personnel where he was pronounced deceased.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is currently investigating the cause of the incident.
