Coast Guard, local agencies medevac ship captain from tanker anchored off Annapolis, Md.

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard coordinated with Anne Arundel County Fire and Rescue to medevac a 61-year-old man from a tanker ship anchored off Annapolis Tuesday.

The captain aboard the 957-foot tanker Cape Althea, contacted Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday, reporting he had a 104-degree fever.

A 45-foot Response Boat – Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis escorted an Anne Arundel County Fire and Rescue boat crew to conduct the medevac and transport the captain to Sandy Point.

“Since the Cape Althea was at anchor and the crew from Anne Arundel County Fire and Rescue has an advanced capability to aid medically, we asked them to assist,” said Chief Petty Officer Eddie McCrae, Coast Guard Sector Baltimore Command Center supervisor.
