Coast Guard, local agencies, good Samaritans remove 120 passengers from vessel aground

7th Coast Guard District NewsCLEARWATER, Fla. — The Coast Guard, local agencies and good Samaritans successfully removed 120 passengers and crew off the passenger vessel Pirates Ransom that ran aground near the Clearwater Causeway Channel Saturday evening.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders were relayed by Coast Guard Station Sand Key that the vessel was hard aground by channel marker 5.

Station Sand Key launched two boatcrews who alongside two good Samaritan vessels, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Clearwater Marine Unit and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Fire Rescue safely removed all passengers from the vessel and transferred them to Clearwater Harbor Marina.

The vessel is not taking on water and the captain of the vessel reports no medical concerns. Plans to refloat the vessel are in the works.
