SEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued a man wearing a life jacket near Dabob Bay in Dosewallips State Park, Thursday afternoon, after he and another canoeist capsized their canoe.
A Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Seattle rescued the 50-year-old man, who was conscious but suffering from symptoms related to hypothermia after an aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles located the man floating in the water.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received the person in the water report at 1:05 p.m. and immediately issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of the helicopter crew.
The ANT Seattle boat crew was in the area servicing important aids to navigation, but diverted from that mission to rescue the man. The rescue crew treated the man with basic first aid and transported him to local emergency medical services waiting at Pleasant Harbor for further care.
