Coast Guard investigators respond to grounded sailing vessel

HONOLULU — Coast Guard pollution investigators are monitoring a sailing vessel that ran aground at approximately 2 p.m. Monday off the coast of west Oahu near the Kahe Power Plant.

At the time of the incident, the 38-foot Priscilla Mary was anchored while its passengers were snorkeling. According to investigators, while the boat was anchored, the wind picked up and pushed the vessel toward the shore before the owner could avoid running the boat aground.

No injuries to the seven passengers were reported.

Honolulu Fire and Police Department personnel were the first on scene. Coast Guard pollution investigators responded at about 3:30 p.m.

Investigators said the Priscilla Mary is carrying 10 gallons of fuel, but there are no reports of pollution.

The owner plans to have the vessel removed. Coast Guard personnel will remain on scene to monitor the situation.
