Coast Guard Investigating Report Of Sheen In Santa Barbara Channel – UPDATE

LOS ANGELES – A Coast Guard HH-65 helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles conducted an over flight today of an area approximately 5 1/2 miles offshore in the Santa Barbara Channel where a silver sheen was reported yesterday to the National Response Center.

Based on the visual assessment from the helicopter, the light sheen is estimated to have dissipated to approximately 160 yards by 15 yards.

As part of the investigation, the Coast Guard asked all oil platforms in the area to check their equipment again this morning, and none have reported signs of failures or malfunctions.

The Coast Guard will continue to monitor the sheen
