Coast Guard Investigating Fuel Leak In Long Beach

LOS ANGELES – The Coast Guard in coordination with California Office of Spill Prevention and Response, Long Beach Fire Department, and Long Beach Police Department, responded to a report of a fuel leak today from a vessel at the International Transport Services (ITS) berth in Long Beach, CA. The leak was reported just after 10:00 a.m.

The master of the 485ft container ship Cap Tapaga reported the leak when he spotted fuel on the side of his vessel and a small sheen in the water The source of the discharge was determined to be a small crack in the vessel’s hull.

The crack was temporarily sealed, the vessel has boomed off, and spill recovery boats are on scene. The vessel is expected to submit a repair plan to the Captain of the Port.
