Coast Guard investigates possible collision on Hudson River

NEW YORK –The Coast Guard is investigating a possible collision between two vessels on the Hudson River that occurred around 1 a.m. today.

Three people were recovered by a Good Samaritan and a fourth person was recovered by the New York City Fire Department after their vessel capsized near Pier 40. They were taken to awaiting Emergency Medical Service personnel in Manhattan and transferred to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Sea Tow recovered the vessel and towed it to Liberty Island Marina, N.J.

“An investigation team has been launched by Coast Guard Sector New York to investigate the situation,” said Lt. j.g. Timothy McDonald, Coast Guard Sector New York’s command duty officer. “We are interviewing the people who were recovered as well as witnesses on scene. We have not confirmed there was a collision at this time.”

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
