Coast Guard investigates parasailing accident

OCEAN ISLE, N.C. – Coast Guard personnel from the Marine Safety Unit in Wilmington are investigating the cause of death for two females near the Ocean Isle Beach Pier Friday.

The initial report indicated the rope connecting their parasail to the boat parted.

The chief of the Ocean Isle Fire Department notified the Coast Guard of the incident at 2:28 p.m. Coast Guard investigators are conducting interviews with eyewitnesses and the master and crew of the vessel, Tied High.

Drug and alcohol testing has been conducted for the master and crew.

The vessel and its contents were collected by the Coast Guard for evidence.

A formal marine casualty investigation is being conducted by the Coast Guard.
