Coast Guard investigates oil sheen off Breton Island

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and other oil response agencies have begun demobilizing resources today involved in the clean up efforts of an oil sheen off the coast of Breton Island, La.

The Coast Guard has been investigating the oil sheen, which first appeared 10 miles southeast of Breton Island Saturday.

An overflight confirmed that the sheen was moving south, away from the island. The Coast Guard and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have determined that Breton Island is not in danger of being effected by the sheen at this time.

The Coast Guard is is investigating the cause of the oil sheen.
