Coast Guard Interdicts 82 Haitian Migrants

MIAMI. – The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant repatriated 82 migrants to Port-au-Prince, Haiti Wednesday after two groups of Haitian migrants were interdicted in two separate incidents last week.

The crew of the cutter Valiant interdicted 71 of the migrants aboard a sail freighter 55 miles west of Great Inagua, Bahamas Sept. 12.

Boat crews from Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce, Fla., and Station Lake Worth Inlet, Fla., interdicted 11 Haitian migrants less than one mile east of Jupiter Island, Fla., Friday.

Once aboard Coast Guard cutters, all migrants are provided food, water and any necessary medical attention.

The Valiant is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Miami.

The Vigilant is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homported in Port Canaveral, Fla.
