PITTSBURGH – The Coast Guard is scheduled to establish a safety zone on portions of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers near the Pittsburgh Pool on Saturday, May 2, 2009, starting at 11:45 a.m.
In support of the Kites for Kids community event, the captain of the port for Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley will restrict navigation spanning the entire width of the rivers and persons and vessels will not be allowed to enter, depart, or move within the safety zone unless specifically authorized by the captain of the port or a designated representative.
Restrictions are as follows: mile marker 0.4 (Fort Duquesne Highway Bridge) on the Allegheny River to mile marker 0.7 (West End Highway Bridge) on the Ohio River and to mile marker 0.0 (Point State Park) on the Monongahela River.
The safety zone will be enforced from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
