PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Coast Guard investigators identified an oil sheen near the mouth of the York River Wednesday as jet fuel leaking from a nearby tug and barge.
The tug towed the barge to the originating fuel facility on the York River, where crews removed all fuel from the leaking tank, and are removing all remaining fuel aboard the barge.
The Coast Guard is working with the owner of the barge on plans for further damage assessment and repairs.
The Coast Guard continues to coordinate overflights in search of any residual fuel in the area.
