LELAND, N.C. – Coast Guard Sector North Carolina personnel held the North Carolina Southern Region Search and Rescue (SAR) Summit in Leland, Wednesday.
Members of Sector North Carolina, Coast Guard Stations Oak Island and Wrightsville Beach, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, search and rescue agencies from Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties, North Carolina Emergency Management and other state and local agencies gathered to work on improving search and rescue coordination in southern North Carolina.
The purpose of the SAR Summit was to share information concerning asset availability and discuss response policy for each agency in order to strengthen partnerships.
Sector North Carolina personnel are working to meet with all SAR-responsible agencies within the coastal zone of North Carolina to continue to strengthen partnerships that serve all mariners who operate and recreate on the state’s waters.
“With the warm weather we’re experiencing this spring, we wanted to meet with our partner agencies before the heavy boating season to ensure we’re serving the public to the best of our collective abilities,” said Capt. Patricia Hill, commanding officer of Sector North Carolina. “The goal of this summit was to improve upon the already outstanding relationships the Coast Guard has with the highly-skilled agencies we work closely with on search and rescue cases.”
