PORT ANGELES, Wash. – The Coast Guard held a ceremony honoring three deceased crewmembers of a CG-6017, an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, that crashed in La Push, Wash., July 7, 2010, one year ago Thursday.
Coast Guardsman based in Port Angeles, Wash., gathered during morning colors in respect of their shipmate’s sacrifice.
A wreath was displayed during the ceremony and was then transferred to an MH65 Dolphin helicopter and flown to the crash site in La Push, where it was met by an MH60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria, Ore.
The two helicopters did a flyover of the crash site before dropping the wreath into the sea, while family and friends of the departed observed aboard a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Quilleyute River, Wash.
Three Crewmembers died in the crash, a pilot and two cremembers. Lt. Lance D. Leone, 29, of Ventura, Calif., survived the crash.
Lt. Sean D. Krueger, of Seymour, Conn., Petty Officer 1st Class Adam C. Hoke, of Great Falls, Mont. and Petty Officer 2nd Class Brett M. Banks, Rock Spring, N.Y., died that day in service of their country.
