McKinleyville, Calif. — The U.S. Coast Guard hoisted a man who became stranded on the side of a cliff Monday evening just south of Crescent City.

The winds on scene were predominantly out of the south forcing the helicopter crew to perform a non-standard hoist; left seat pilot maneuvering the aircraft. The flight mechanic, Jake Marks, verbally flew the aircraft into position through voice commands to the pilot. The rescue swimer, Shawn Lesko, was lowered into position, secured Mr. Sanger and was safely hoisted.
