TAMPA – Members from the Coast Guard and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office were recognized during an awards ceremony at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Falkenburg Road Jail Assembly Room, Wednesday.
Crewmembers from the Coast Guard Cutter Hawk were awarded the Citizen’s Award and members from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office were awarded the Life Saving Award for rescuing a person who was injured by the propeller of a sailing vessel near Pine Key, Fla., Aug. 22, 2010.

“This is a great example of the sheriff’s office and the Coast Guard working together,” said David Gee, Sheriff. “You don’t hear about these sort of things on a daily basis. It’s a real unique experience and we are proud to work with the Coast Guard.”
