TOLEDO, Ohio – Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Toledo and Coast Guard Station Marblehead, Ohio, along with the crew of the CSL Niagara and Lloyds Register, safely refloated a grounded vessel near Sandusky, Ohio, Monday night.

The Canadian flagged, self-discharging, bulk cargo vessel CSL NIAGARA, operated by V-Ships, loaded with approximately 30,000 Metric Tons of Coal, grounded in the Moseley Channel, Sunday morning.

Increased water levels and favorable wind conditions allowed the vessel to be freed with the assistance of three tugs contracted by V-Ships Canada.

Once the CSL Niagara was freed, a surveyor from Lloyd’s Register confirmed a test of all navigation and propulsion equipment as well as verifying no damage to the hull.

No pollution was reported after the un-grounding of the vessel.

The Coast Guard investigation into the incident is ongoing.
