Coast Guard helps escort USS Michael Murphy safely through New York Harbor

Northeast Atlantic Coast Guard NewsNEW YORK – Coast Guard boat crews, working alongside partner local agencies, escorted the USS Michael Murphy through New York Harbor and up the Hudson River to Manhattan’s Pier 88 this morning.

The Michael Murphy commissioning ceremony is scheduled to be held October 6 at Pier 88, after a week of events leading to the ceremony.

The Navy Burke-class destroyer is named after Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a navy seal posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for actions during the War in Afghanistan. He was from Suffolk County New York.
