BOSTON (D1 Public Affairs) – The Coast Guard is helping two people whose sailboat began taking on water and sinking about 15 miles west of Provincetown, Mass., today.
A 25-foot response boat and crew from Coast Guard Station Scituate, Mass., arrived on scene with the 35-foot sailboat, Luau, to assist. A crewman from the response boat put a dewatering pump on the Luau and pumped the water off.
A 47-foot utility boat from Station Provincetown is towing the Luau to Provincetown.
Several good Samaritan vessels, as well as the Plymouth, Mass., harbormaster and the Provincetown III ferry were standing by to assist.
“There are lots of boaters on the water this weekend taking advantage of the nice weather,” said Jay Woodhead, a search and rescue coordinator at Sector Boston. “We’re glad that there were so many mariners in the area who were willing to help the Luau.”
The identity of the two people aboard the Luau is currently unknown.
There are no reported injuries.
