NEW ORLEANS – A Coast Guard aircrew rescued two duck hunters after they lost all power and drifted into the marsh near Shell Beach. The Coast Guard received the call in the pre-dawn hours after the two men reported that they were stranded on the marsh after high winds pushed their vessel aground.
Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew to rescue the hunters. The aircrew quickly located and hoisted Darrel Materne, Sr., 49yrs, and Darrel Materne, Jr., 20 yrs, of Kenner, La., and transported them in good condition to the Naval Air Station in Belle Chasse, La., where they were met by relatives.
