Coast Guard helicopter crew medevacs man from ship 170 miles off Atlantic City, NJ, coast

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 39-year-old man from a tanker ship Tuesday approximately 170 miles east of Atlantic City.

A crewmember from the crude oil tanker Valtamed, an Italian-flagged ship, contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at approximately 11:15 a.m. and reported a crewman aboard was found unconscious in his cabin and needed immediate medical attention.

Watchstanders dispatched a crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City and an HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to assist.

The helicopter crew hoisted the man and took him to the air station where his care was transferred to awaiting emergency medical services personnel.
