Coast Guard helicopter crew medevacs man from fishing vessel

NEW ORLEANS — A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans medically evacuated a man from a fishing vessel approximately 35 miles southwest of Morgan City, La., Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a report at approximately 11:20 a.m., a 56-year-old male, aboard the Sea Wasp, a 162-foot fishing vessel, had reportedly suffered chest pain.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans launched an MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew to the scene, to assist. The crew hoisted the man and transported him to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, La.

“The Coast Guard is dedicated to assisting mariners in distress,” said Lt. Ryan Baxter, Eighth Coast Guard District Command Center, command duty officer. “It is vital that all mariners have a working VHF radio onboard the vessel.”

The man’s condition is unknown.
