Coast Guard helicopter crew assists Navy Squadron HM-15

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Corpus Christi recovered an Airborne Mine Counter Measures AMCM float used by Navy Squadron HM-15 for mine sweeping exercises Wednesday.

A Coast Guard HH-65C helicopter crew completed a beach-line search and recovered the lost AMCM float 15 miles north of Port Aransas.

The Navy uses the AMCM float during mine sweeping exercises to clear shipping lanes of possible enemy naval mines and ensure safe passage.

The helicopter crew transported the recovered AMCM float, which is valued at approximately $40,000, back to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.
