Coast Guard Helicopter Conducts Patrol Flight With Chinese

Los Angeles – The crew of an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, currently deployed with the Coast Guard Cutter Munro, took Xiaoping Li, a representative from the Chinese Fishery Administration, on a routine Surface Patrol flight Sunday Aug. 24, 2008.

“This is the first time a representative from the Chinese Government has gone up in a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter in support of this mission,” said Lieutenant Dill, the senior pilot of the helicopter crew that took Li on the 2-hour flight.

Li serves as an interpreter and his presence on the ship allows the crew of the Munro to enforce the laws and regulations of the Chinese government on fishing vessels that would otherwise be outside U.S. Coast Guard jurisdiction.
