Coast Guard helicopter airlifts injured ice climber near Pictured Rocks

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City airlifted an injured ice climber suffering from head and back injuries Friday evening.

The climber fell while ice climbing at Pictured Rocks Ice Caves in Munising, Michigan. Due to location and terrain, a ground evacuation was not possible.

The Coast Guard was called to assist and the aircrew conducted a hoist of the injured climber and transported her to Munising Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
