Friday morning Monday Properties announced that it, in a joint venture with Apollo Real Estate Advisors’ Value Enhancement Fund VI, they had acquired the Transpoint Building in Washington, D.C., which has been the headquarters of the United States Coast Guard since it was built in 1973. The 8-story, 600,000-square-foot structure is on the southwest waterfront of the District, located at 2100 Second Street SW. Monday Properties will manage the property.
The Coast Guard will continue to occupy the space, but with the neighborhood changing so rapidly, there are many opportunities for growth. The building is situated right near the new Washington Nationals baseball stadium, which will be completed in 2008, and is within the bounds of the ongoing 20-year, $8 million Anacostia Waterfront Initiative (AWI) to revitalize the areas flanking the river.
