Coast Guard, good Samaritans assist vessel taking on water

Marine Safety Unit Morgan CityNEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and good Samaritans assisted a vessel taking on water at Palmetto Bayou, Louisiana, Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 9:00 a.m. of a 12-foot aluminum boat, with three people onboard, that was disabled and taking on water over its bow.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew. A good Samaritan was able to assist the vessel into calmer waters where they could safely continue to transit.

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Morgan City diverted a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from operations to escort the vessel to Morgan City where they safely moored.
