MIAMI — The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued two people Monday from a 19-foot pleasure craft taking on water 2 miles south of Marathon.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received a radio call on VHF-FM channel 16 at 4:25 p.m. from a 20-foot procat rental vessel taking on water. The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast.
A good Samaritan vessel responded to the UMIB, arrived on scene with the distressed vessel and embarked one person.
A Coast Guard Station Marathon 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement boat crew diverted from a patrol, arrived on scene at 4:35 p.m. and assisted dewatering the vessel.
A vessel from the rental company arrived on scene, embarked the two people with no reported injuries and took the 20-foot vessel in tow back to the rental location.
