Coast Guard, good Samaritan rescue 2 missing divers near Duck Key

MIAMI — The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued two divers near Duck Key, Tuesday.

Rescued were Rich Warner, 68, and Dustin Warner, 32, from Indiana.

Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders received a call from Rich’s wife at approximately 6:40 p.m., stating he was expected back at 1 p.m., that day and had not been in contact with him. Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Station Marathon 45-foot Response Boat—Medium crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew. The good Samaritan, The Hunter, embarked Rich’s wife and went searching.

The good Samaritan crew rescued Dustin approximately 1 mile west of his boat. The station Marathon boatcrew located Rich approximately 3 miles south of Duck Key, embarked him and transferred him back to his boat with no reported injuries.
