Galveston – The Coast Guard, Galveston Police Department and Galveston Island Beach Patrol are searching for an 18-year-old man who was last seen swimming in San Luis Pass, off Galveston, Friday.

Missing is Chris Jackson of League City.

Another man who was swimming with Jackson called the Galveston Police Department at approximately 8:30 p.m., on Friday to report that Jackson hadn’t resurfaced after both men were overtaken by a large wave.

Coast Guard crewmembers are currently searching aboard an MH-65D Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Houston and a 45-foot Response Boat — Medium from Coast Guard Station Freeport.

“Last night we launched a fresh small boatcrew from Station Freeport and they were able to stay on scene all night,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Steven Smith, a watchstander with Sector Houston/Galveston. “This morning we were able to launch a fresh aircrew from Air Station Houston to continue the search. We’re mitigating the fatigue limits of all of our resources, which allows us to continue searching for longer periods of time.”
