Coast Guard, FWC, BSO, FLPD search for man near Ft. Lauderdale

MIAMI — The Coast Guard, Broward County Sherrif’s Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Ft. Lauderdale Police Department are searching for a missing man after his boat was found aground on Ft. Lauderdale Beach, Fla., with its navigation lights lit and engines still running Wednesday at approximately 2 a.m.

Missing is Guma Aguiar, 33, of Ft. Lauderdale.

Good Samaritans reported the 31-foot center console vessel aground Wednesday morning. The Coast Guard matched the vessel to another report that Aguiar took his vessel out at approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday and had not yet returned.

Coast Guard Sector Miami command center dispatched the Coast Guard Cutter Dolphin, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami and a Station Ft. Lauderdale 45-foot Response Boat – Medium crew. They are currently searching approximately three miles offshore between Lauderdale by the Sea and Port Everglades.

Broward County Sherrif’s Office, Ft. Lauderdale Police Department, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission crews are also on scene helping in the search.
