Coast Guard Foundation Establishes Family Disaster Relief Fund”

The Coast Guard Foundation has established a “Family Disaster Relief Fund” to assist the families of the aircrew of CG6505.  The following is from the foundation website.

During the evening of September 4, 2008 the Coast Guard suffered the tragic loss of a Coast Guard Helicopter CG-6505 and its crew from Air Station Barbers Point in Hawaii.

“The Coast Guard Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Staff are deeply saddened by this tragedy and our hearts go out to the families of these crewmembers and all Coast Guard members stationed in Hawaii and throughout the world. We knew instantly upon learning of this incident that we had to act; we now ask others to join us in supporting these families through this devastating event.” ~Anne Brengle, Coast Guard Foundation President

In response to this tragic situation, the Coast Guard Foundation has established the Family Disaster Relief Fund to provide emergency assistance to the families of this helicopter crew. It is our hope that we can provide support and comfort to these families- and others in the future- who are experiencing such heart-wrenching events.

At this time, the bodies of three crewmembers have been recovered, one is still missing. All four of the crew were married with children.
