Coast Guard Flood Relief on Grand River

FAIRPORT HARBOR, Ohio – The Coast Guard is scheduled to assist the communities affected by flooding on the Grand River Tuesday.

The ice on the Grand River has created a natural dam and clogged flow of the river into Lake Erie. Sunday night’s rain was too much for the clogged river to handle, and it flooding in communities along the river.

The Coast Guard Cutter Neah Bay, homeported in Cleveland, is scheduled to break the natural ice dam at the mouth of the Grand River, Tuesday morning, in an effort to relieve the flood waters.
