MIAMI — The body of a man, who went missing on Friday, was positively identified by a medical examiner with Monroe County in Marathon, Fla., Wednesday.

Crewmembers aboard a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter located the body of Mark Polaschek northwest of Key Largo Tuesday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Polaschek family during this difficult time,” said Capt. Aylwyn S. Young, Coast Guard Sector Key West Commander.

Late Friday evening, Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders received a report of an overdue vessel after Polaschek failed to return.

Multiple Coast Guard air and surface assets were launched to search for the sailing vessel in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service.

For this search, the Coast Guard has actively searched 341 square nautical miles, utilizing search-and-rescue helicopters, maritime patrol aircraft and small rescue boats.
