Coast Guard finds missing hunter

The Anchorage Daily News reports

SITKA — A hunter who didn’t return to his rendezvous point as planned after he split off from the rest of his party was rescued Monday night in good condition, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The man, whose name and age were not immediately released, was rescued about 9:30 p.m., about three hours after troopers requested Coast Guard assistance in locating him, said spokesman Ray Dwyer.

A helicopter deployed from Sitka located the hunter after its crew spotted a campfire burning on Shelter Island near Juneau, Dwyer said.

He had been missing since Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported, Dwyer said.
