Coast Guard evacuates man from charter boat

ASTORIA, Ore. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 70-year-old man from a charter boat five miles off Copalis Beach, Wash., near Grays Harbor, Wash. today.

Coast Guard Group Astoria, Ore., received a radio call from crewmembers aboard the 40-foot charter vessel Fortuna at 9:02 a.m., reporting a man had fallen unconscious.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Grays Harbor were launched.

The motor lifeboat crew arrived on scene and transferred the man onto their vessel. A crewman performed CPR while they transported him to shore, where he was pronounced dead by local emergency medical personnel.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
