Coast Guard evacuates injured logger

SEATTLE – Crewmembers from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend evacuated an injured logger about 10 miles east of Myrtle Point, Ore., at approximately 11:45 a.m. today.

The HH-65C helicopter crew deployed after receiving a call from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office about a logger who had been involved in an accident with a pavement roller. The helicopter crew transported the logger to the Bay Area Hospital.

The injured man was then transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center in Portland, Ore., by an emergency medical team for further treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

A C-130 search plane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento was diverted from a scheduled patrol to help relay communications for this mission.

The incident is currently under investigation.
