Coast Guard evacuates cruise ship crewmember

1st Coast Guard District NewsNEW YORK – The Coast Guard conducted a medical evacuation of a cruise ship crewmember in the Upper Bay of New York Harbor, Sunday, July 24, 2011

Coast Guard Sector New York received the request for assistance to have a 36-year-old pregnant crewmember, who went in labor, transferred off the cruise ship Norwegian Gem.

At approximately 5:13 p.m., a small boat crew from Coast Guard Station New York met the ship in Stapleton Anchorage. The crew transferred the woman to their boat and transported her to emergency medical services waiting at Station New York, which then transferred her to a nearby hospital.
