Coast Guard establishes Special Local Regulation for Combate Grand Prix speed boat race in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico

CABO ROJO, Puerto Rico — The Coast Guard has established a Special Local Regulation on the waters off Combate Beach in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to be in effect from 9a.m. to 5p.m. Sunday during the Combate Grand Prix high speed boat races.

Approximately 40 high-speed boats will be participating in the Combate Grand Prix speed boat race.

It is critical that spectators and boaters observe the boundaries of the Special Local Regulation area established for the safety of race participants, spectators and the general public during the event.

In ZONE (1) Power Boat Race Area and ZONE (2) Buffer Zone Area of the Special Local Regulation, all persons and vessels except those persons and vessel participating in the high speed boat races, are prohibited from entering, transiting through, anchoring in, or remaining within. In the ZONE (3) Spectator Area, all vessels are prohibited from traveling in excess of wake speed.

Persons, boaters or licensed mariners found in violation of a Special Local Regulation may be subject to civil penalties, which comprise but are not limited to termination of voyage, suspension and revocation of license, and fines up to $5,000.
