Coast Guard Escorts Swift into Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Coast Guard completed an escort of the vessel Swift into the Port of Savannah Tuesday afternoon.

The vessel Swift, which was carrying four over-sized gantry cranes, was under Coast Guard escort from the sea buoy to Garden City Terminal by two patrol craft from Station Tybee, Ga., three Coast Guard Auxiliary patrol craft from the Hilton Head, S.C., and Savannah flotillas, and a helicopter from Air Station Savannah.

The Coast Guard established the safety zone to protect other vessels from an obstruction to safe navigation that was presented by the positioning of the gantry cranes on board the vessel Swift.

The Coast Guard appreciates the maritime industry’s cooperation in facilitating the safe transit of the vessel Swift into Savannah.
