Coast Guard ends search for unconfirmed person in the water near Zuma Beach

65 Los AngelesLos Angeles – The Coast Guard ended the search for an unconfirmed person in the water near Zuma Beach, Tower 2, at about 1:30 p.m., after the woman was located by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at a local hospital.

Coast Guard watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach command center received a call at about 8:30 a.m., reporting that a note was left on the beach along with some clothing, giving the suspicion that someone had entered the water. It was later confirmed that there was not a note or clothing, but a backpack filled with a purse, prescriptions and a diary.

There has been no witness to any persons entering the water in that area.

The Coast Guard launched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor to search for the possible missing person. Members of Los Angeles County Fire Department, Baywatch Malibu, and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the search.
