SAN PEDRO — The Coast Guard and Ventura County Fire Department have ended their search for a possible person in the water near Mandalay State Beach, Calif., Thursday.
The individual’s brother contacted local authorities at informing them that he was safe.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach command center received notification of a possible missing person in the water at 2:15 p.m.
The individual was described to be a caucasian male, appearing to be in his twenties with black swimming trunks.
Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach immediately launched a 45-foot Response Boat -Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor to search for the missing person.
Along with the response boat, a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Forward Operating Base Point Mugu was also launched to assist in the search. Ventura County Fire Department also assisted in the search for the missing person.
The Coast Guard urges mariners to always:
- Stay Informed – The public should be aware of weather conditions and monitor the progress and strength of currents through local television, radio and internet. Check the current and expected weather and water conditions before heading out, and be aware that weather conditions can quickly change.
- Wear life jackets while on the water.
- File a float plan with friends, family members and local marinas before heading out. The list should include the number of passengers aboard the vessel, vessel’s destination and expected time of return.
- Always have a working marine-band radio on board.
- Carry marine flares on board the vessel.
- Ensure bilge pumps are operational and vessels are secure for heavy winds and rain.
