Coast Guard ends search for person in the water

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard ended its search for a person in the water after the man’s body was recovered in Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, Wednesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report Tuesday from Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries of a missing person, Lawrence Guimont, matching the description of the reported person in the water.

Guimont’s vehicle was found unattended near Lake Pontchartrain and his vessel was discovered overturned in the lake by St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office.

Watchstanders at Sector New Orleans received the initial report at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday from St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office of a person in Lake Pontchartrain seen on the west side of the Highway 11 bridge.

Involved in the search were:

  • Coast Guard Station New Orleans 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew
  • Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew
  • Coast Guard Auxiliary boatcrew
  • Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries
  • Tammany Sheriff’s Office
