Coast Guard ends search for boaters in possible distress near Point Loma

Pacific Southwest Coast Guard NewsSAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for the five boaters who made a collect call to report they were taking on water near Point Loma, Sunday.

The search was suspended at approximately 6:20 p.m., after rescue crews were unable to make contact with the caller for more information, no response was received from the broadcast to mariners, there were no reports of missing persons and Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, harbor police, fire department and lifeguards conducted an extensive search for the green and white boat.

The Coast Guard launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew to search the vicinity of Point Loma after CBP requested assistance in a search for a green and white vessel in possible distress. The Coast Guard also issued an urgent marine broadcast requesting mariners in the area to keep a sharp lookout for the vessel.
