Coast Guard ends search as body of missing man is found in Irondequoit Bay

CLEVELAND — The search for a missing man in Irondequoit Bay ended Saturday afternoon as divers found and recovered his body.

At 5 p.m. Friday, a search-and-rescue controller at Coast Guard Sector Buffalo, N.Y., was contacted by a 911 operator who had received a report of a man jumping off a sailing vessel in Irondequoit Bay, N.Y. The reporting source was another person from the vessel who stated the man was not wearing a life jacket when he jumped. No one onboard could locate him.

Coast Guard assets included rescue boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Rochester, N.Y., aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat and a 25-foot Response Boat-Small.

The Coast Guard crews conducted numerous searches in conjunction with rescue crews from the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Webster, N.Y., and Monroe County, N.Y., fire departments, as well as the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

A Monroe County Fire Department dive team located and recoveedr the man’s body at 4:05 p.m.
